"Tbilisi, Georgia, December 20, 2023, The president of the Georgian Judo National Federation (GJNF), allocating funds to personal trainer institutions will promote healthy competition and nurture the preexisting interest in Judo, according to Giorgi Atabegashvili.

The new system slated for implementation will allocate 70% of the funds to the personal trainers to boost enthusiasm, whereas the other 30% will encourage student participation.

“The national tournament system will reward the trainers financially, allowing them to invest in their institutions and take the sport to the next level”, David Atabegashvili, the vice president of the GJNF explained.

Personal Judo trainers will have to undergo a rigorous qualification background check before the start of each competitive season. The new system will reward trainers based on their pupils’ performances in the competitions. The new year-round point system being established this year will culminate in the selection of the best 16 athletes from each age group and weight category to perform in the Masters-Georgian championship.

“We believe that increasing the enthusiasm of the trainers is the appropriate next step to take Judo to the next level nationally. The trainers’ monetary gain will trickle down into the community and will have an overall positive effect on the Judo community,” -  David Atabegashvili said.

Judo is a ministry-backed sport in the nation, and its popularity is continuing its gradual growth, according to the president of the GJNF. Georgia ranked 3rd in the Global Judo Cup in 2022, and its athletes hold 4 gold medals in the Olympics in judo.
